Menstrual Cupapalooza! Review and Giveaway of the Diva Cup

Welcome back to my menstrual cup series!  Today's review is for the Diva cup.

The Diva cup is a reusable menstrual cup made of high quality silicone in Canada.

I bet many of you cup fans were waiting for this review!  There isn't much I can say about the Diva cup that you won't already know, because the Diva cup is one of the most popular cups out there.  In fact, many women I have talked to had no idea there where other cups beside the Diva!

Like most cups, the Diva cup comes in two size.   The Large Diva cup is one of the longest cups on the market, making it great for someone with a high cervix and /or heavy flow. The stem on the large cup is relatively short, and both the base of the cup and the stem are covered in ridges to aid in gripping the cup.  The Diva cup is, so far, the longest and softest cup I have tried.   The softness does, in my opinion, make inserting the cup very easy and painless.  I personally do not have a problem getting the cup to unfold using any fold EXCEPT the punch down fold.  The cup is simply too soft to pop open with this fold in my experience.

The Diva cup is a little bit more V shaped as opposed to bell shaped, compared so some of the other cups I have tried.  This can be a great thing for someone who wants a little bit of slimmer cup to make sure they don't feel it.

To sum this all up, I like my Diva cup.  I love that this company is so well known, (and for good reason) and because of that it has opened up the world of menstrual cups to many women.   However, on days where my cervix is particularly low, the Diva cup is just too long for me to use.   If you have a a high or average length cervix, have a moderate to heavy flow, or like a soft cup, the Diva cup might be a good choice for you.

Want try your own DIVA CUP?  You're in luck!  Diva Cup has very generously agreed to sponsor a giveaway!  One lucky winner will receive their own Diva cup.   This giveaway is open to anyone who is 18 years or older and lives in the UNITED STATES or CANADA.   Just enter using the raffle copter form below, and don't forget to like Diva on Facebook and follow on twitter as a thanks!

Menstrual Cupapalooza! Instead SoftCup Review and Giveaway!

Welcome back to the Menstrual Cupapalooza!  If you haven't yet, don't forget to read the FAQ post, my review of the Keeper and my review of the LadyCup.

The cup I'll be reviewing today is very different from any other cup I'll be reviewing during this series.  Not only is this cup shaped differently, inserted differently and worn differently than a traditional menstrual cup, this cup is DISPOSABLE.

It's the Instead Softcup.

Like a traditional menstrual cup, the Softcup works by being inserted into the vagina to catch the menstrual flow.  That's about where the similarities end between a traditional cup and the Softcup.  Instead of folding the cup and inserting the mouth right under your cervix, the Softcup is folded in half and one end is hooked under the cervix while the other end us tucked under the pubic bone.  The rim of the cup is very stiff but still flexible, while the very thin polymeric material bag will collapse inside the vagina but expand as it fills with fluid.

Inserting the Softcup is easy.  Start by squeezing the sides of the cup together, then insert one end of the cup into the vagina angled down and back.  When you feel the cup meet the end of your vagina, tuck the other end of the cup up and under your pubic bone.  Lastly, feel to make sure that the first end of the cup is hooked around your cervix.  Easy!  If that explanation was a bit hard for you to follow, there is a great video on how to insert on the Softcup's website.  Removing the cup is even easier.  Simply insert one finger into the vagina, hook it under the rim of the cup and pull it out!  Dump the contents into the toilet and throw the cup away.

Functionally, the disposable Softcups work very well for me.  I find them easy to insert, even easier to remove, and comfortable.  While I do prefer a reusable menstrual cup for everyday use to reduce environmental waste as much as possible, I love the Softcup if I'm traveling or may need to empty/change my cup in a public bathroom.  I have very few leaks with them if the cup is inserted properly, and they hold enough that I only need to empty them every 10-12 hours.  Another benefit of the Softcup is that you can have sex with the cup in place!  I haven't tested this one out myself, but it might be worth looking into for some of you.

Want to try your own box of disposable Softcups?  Some of your local stores may sell them, such as Walmart and CVS.  You can also buy them on the Softcup website, or you can enter to win some here!  Instead has been kind enough to sponsor a giveaway, thanks Instead!  Two lucky winners will each win one 14 count box of disposable Softcups each, no purchase necessary!  Anyone 18 years or older and residing the in United States is eligible to enter.  Simply enter using the Rafflecopter form below!  Thanks for reading and don't forget to come back next week for another post about menstrual cups.
